Hopelessly Liberal, like all widely read political/social commentaries, is gearing up for next week’s review of Donald Trump’s first hundred days.  There is still time sister, so this is not that post or “those” because HL will post two – one “How’s he doing?” and the other an (Ed) Koch-like “How am I doing?” assessing the heuristic and predictive value in HL’s first 33 posts.

Ivanka Trump

But it’s not too early to reflect on the transformation of Ivanka Trump from apprentice to her father, who promised lots of impossible (or nearly so) things to the piñata of the German crowd that jeered her for mere filiation but also for aiding, abetting and seeking to justify the ongoing abomination.  Of Donald Trump’s 180 degree reversals on many points and promises made during his campaign, transition and first few weeks in office, Ivanka said “[o]ne of the things that I value about my father, as first a businessman and now as the leader of our country, is that he curates ideas and he likes to hear from people with divergent viewpoints.”

Janet Yellen

The curator-in chief presumably heard from divergent voices when in the span of 48 hours he completely renounced previous positions on Chinese currency manipulation, NATO obsolescence, the continuing utility of the U.S. Export-Import Bank and Fed Chair Janet Yellen’s competence and the merit of keeping interest rates low.  These unacknowledged reversals earned Trump multiple upside-down Pinocchios from theWashington Post but quantitatively and qualitatively are outweighed by one – Trump’s promise to replace ObamaCare with plans that are “a lot less expensive” covering “. . . everybody.  I don’t care if it costs me votes or not.  Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”  Once TrumpCare was analyzed by the Congressional Budget Office, it became clear that the bill Trump backed, would both raise rates and result in as many as 24 million of the newly covered to rejoin the ranks of the uninsured.

And what of the complicity of “accomplice” Ivanka.  She told Hallie Jackson of MSNBC that she didn’t like the “intonation” of that word because it wasn’t “productive.”  What bruises the ears here at HL is Ivanka’s misuse of “intonation” and devaluation of the noble curatorial profession and function, by saying that’s what Donald Trump is doing when he abandons often repeated promises he may not even remember making.
